Biography
Richard, only son of Robert and Jane Hebblethwaite, was born at Tunstall,
near Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria in 1797. He moved to Kilner Foot, Hutton
Roof, where he was listed in an early census as Yeoman and Farmer of 32
acres. He died there in 1879 and is buried at Kirkby Lonsdale.

Details
Agnes Holme was born at Hutton Roof in 1805. She married Richard at
St John's Church, Hutton Roof, in 1827. She died in 1895.
The illustration opposite was copied from a framed portrait (with signature
J
Wilson) which has been passed down to successive Hebblethwaite generations
and was kindly donated to the website author by Mrs Agnes Gardner, Agnes'
Great Granddaughter.

Initials
I am indebted to Nick Hall living at Kilner Foot April 2005, who sent
me the picture below of Richard and Agnes' initials (1871) carved into
a truss in the end part of the barn and believed to be contemporary with
its building.
