Son of John Edward (Ted) and Dora, Donald Hebblethwaite was born at Todd Hill, High Bentham, North Yorkshire, in 1924. He attended High Bentham Primary School and Burton-in-Lonsdale Secondary School. After serving in the Pioneer Corps based at Eastbourne, he joined George Angus & Co, Bentham, manufacturers of fire fighting equipment, and retired after 45 years' continuous employment. He married Anna Morag in 1955 and has a son John, the website author, born in 1956. Donald died aged 82 at Anley Hall Nursing Home, Settle, on 18.01.2007.
At the end of the War, Anna made her way back home to Poland, but was unable to contact her parents and family who were in hiding. She joined the ranks of displaced persons travelling from town to town, eventually arriving at Darmstadt Camp, Germany. From here she emigrated to England and came to work at the George Angus & Co factory, Bentham.

Donald also had a twin brother, William. Sadly, he died after only 8 days.
